JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – It was a tough Tuesday for area girls soccer teams.
Only Bishop Kenny made it through to the state championship game as the Crusaders rolled by previously unbeaten Ocala Vanguard 5-1 to storm into a Thursday Class 4A state semifinal at Spec Martin Stadium in Deland.

In Class 2A, Providence’s excellent season ended with an 8-0 loss to Palmer Trinity in the state semifinals in Auburndale.
Both reigning state champions from St. Johns County (Bartram Trail and Ponte Vedra) and another contender (Creekside) bowed out in the regional finals.
The Sharks entered the game unbeaten and ranked No. 1 in the nation by MaxPreps couldn’t find the net against Tallahassee Chiles and dropped a 1-0 game. Ponte Vedra was trying for a state championship threepeat, but finished its season at 15-1-2.
Bartram Trail dropped its Region 1-6A final at Niceville 3-0. The Bears finished 15-3-4.
And Creekside couldn’t overcome host Lake Mary in a 3-0 loss. The Knights finished 12-3-3.
The Spartans (15-3-3) will face fourth-seeded Victory Christian (13-7) at 1 p.m. on Feb. 20 at the Lake Myrtle Sports Complex in Auburndale.
