Local girls weightlifters shine with multiple championships at state meet

It was a successful state tournament weekend for a slew of girls high school weightlifters. (News4JAX)

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Ten local girls weightlifters brought home individual championships at the Florida High School Athletic Association state tournament in Lakeland.

In Class 3A, Flagler Palm Coast’s Nya Williams won both the traditional and Olympic disciplines at 119 pounds. Creekside’s Taylor Bush (139) and Bartram Trail’s Ava Myers (129) won Olympic discipline titles.

In 2A, Elle Bays of Menendez won the 169-pound class in both the traditional and Olympic categories.

Ridgeview’s Jazmin Caraballo swept the traditional and Olympic disciplines at 183. St. Augustine’s Avery Miller swept the unlimited weight category in Olympic and traditional. At 139 pounds, Kathryn Ward of Fleming Island brought home a state crown.

In Class 1A, Payton Jefferson of West Nassau won the 110-pound class in the traditional discipline. Suwannee’s Brianna Woods (129) also brought home a traditional title. Cedar Creek Christian’s Stephanie Griffith swept both disciplines at 199 pounds.
