League-leading Sporting JAX women wrap up playoff spot in first season

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Sporting JAX women wrapped up a playoff spot in their first season and are barreling towards the postseason.

Sporting JAX beat Brooklyn FC 2-0 on Saturday at Hodges Stadium, stretching its unbeaten streak to six games. A chain reaction of other games (Dallas Trinity over Spokane, Carolina over Tampa and FTL United’s win over DC Power on Monday night) officially put Sporting JAX in the playoffs.

At 13-4-5, Sporting JAX leads the Gainbridge Super League standings. The team hasn’t lost since a 1-0 setback to Dallas on Sept. 6. It has 44 points, four in front of Lexington SC (10-2-10). They’re back in action on Saturday at Detroit City FC.

Ashlyn Puerta leads Sporting JAX in scoring with nine goals. Paige Kenton (nine goals) and Baylee DeSmit follows with seven. Puerta and Kenton share the team lead with seven assists followed by Meg Hughes.
