JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Sporting JAX women’s soccer team looks to keep right on making history.
The women’s club finished second in the Gain Bridge Super League standings and will host the Carolina Ascent on Sunday in the playoff semifinals on 5 p.m. at UNF’s Hodges Stadium. A win in that match and Sporting JAX would advance to the May 30 championship.

It’s a new experience on a new club, but players aren’t letting that feeling get to them. Forward Paige Kenton said that while this may be a first for many players on the roster, they’re leaning on the experience they do have to help with the postseason push.
“I didn’t get to go to a postseason tournament in college until my fifth year. Never made it undergrad. So, this has been really exciting,” Kenton said. “But also means it’s brand new and I think that’s the case for a lot of us, whether it’s professional or college. A lot of us have not had this experience. So, I think just kind of focusing on what we know and leaning on the people who have done this before to take us to a victory.”
Sporting JAX went 2-1-1 against Carolina in the regular season, but lost its last match of the year to the Ascent (3-1). But that match was on the road, and this one comes at home, a place that Sporting JAX loves to play at.
“Having more people rooting for your side always helps. And just the environment at Hodges with all the little trailers with the boxes … we like everyone that’s in there. They’re right against the field,” midfielder Sophia Boman said.
“So, I think just the overall environment gives us more momentum and more energy as a team.”
