This Week in Jacksonville: Business Edition - Chang Robotics uses faith to shape leadership approach

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Jacksonville entrepreneur Matthew Chang is making waves both as CEO of Chang Robotics and as the author of the Amazon bestseller “Risk Taking is Biblical.” In a recent interview on “This Week in Jacksonville: Business Edition”, Chang shared how his faith shapes his approach to business and leadership, and how Jacksonville is emerging as a center for robotics and automation innovation.

Chang explained that his faith-based company not only tithes profits but also encourages employees to give of themselves to other causes. “Everybody in the company is expected to serve in their community. Does it have to be a Christian service? No. You can serve soup to homeless people or build a house. But whatever it is, you need to get out there and do something,” he said.

The book, “Risk Taking is Biblical,” offers a prescriptive roadmap for entrepreneurs struggling to take the leap. “A lot of people have the next great idea, but the challenge is how do I jump off the ledge and take that risk?” Chang said. “The book lays out different models, and if you start in chapter one and get to chapter 12, you should be taking your risk.”

Chang draws inspiration from the biblical parable of the talents, emphasizing the importance of stewardship and bold action. “The master praised the two servants who went at once to the marketplace and wagered it all,” he said. “I think the only choice we have as Christians is to go to the marketplace and wager it all for the glory of the master.”

On the robotics front, Chang Robotics has pioneered four of the world’s first autonomous systems, including Jacksonville’s mass transit system. Chang is doubling down on local growth with a new engineering headquarters in Jacksonville Beach and partnerships with Jacksonville University.

“2026 is going to be a big year for us,” Chang said. “We want to be the leader in the industrial revival in this country. It’s time to make products here, have local supply chains, and be self-sufficient. Chang Robotics wants to enable every great manufacturing company to do that right here at home.”

For aspiring entrepreneurs, Chang offers practical advice: “Show up at work and be the best worker you can. Look for mentors and treat them with respect. Get out there and network, even if you have social anxiety. The power of the team is what matters.”
