Unemployment is rising in Florida, including in Jacksonville and nearby counties in Northeast Florida. The latest report from the Florida Department of Commerce comes just after CSX, a large employer in Jacksonville, announced layoffs of more than 160 workers.

The Florida Department of Commerce on Friday released a report that said the state had a 3.6 percent unemployment rate in March, the same as in February. Florida had an estimated 403,000 people who qualified as out of work in March, 5,000 more than a month earlier. Meanwhile, the labor force of about 11.2 million grew by 1,000 in the same time.

Florida State College at Jacksonville (FSCJ) will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony Thursday morning to unveil its new commercial vehicle driving program at the Nassau Center in Yulee.
