If you’re out at Klutho Park in Springfield, you might notice a modern-style giraffe statue overlooking the green spaces. It’s there to mark the site of Jacksonville’s first zoo, which was built in the early 1900s.

A Springfield resident worked with the nonprofit Sustainable Springfield to build a disc golf course in Klutho Park, which is maintained now by SPAR and is a daily attraction for residents across the city.

Each Fourth of July for the past 18 years, people in the Springfield community come together for a throwback baseball game at Klutho Park.

I’m A Star Foundation teens are preparing for their milestone 10th Let’s Move Jacksonville, a big field day embracing health, wellness and self-care. The event will take place Saturday, December 3, 2022, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Klutho Park, located at 204 West 3rd Street in downtown Springfield. TV anchors from all three local news stations are joining forces to host the event. Action News Jax’s Tenikka Hughes, First Coast News’ Chris Porter and WJXT River City Live’s Rance Adams will encourage the crowd to enjoy a variety of activities.

In the Jacksonville neighborhood of Springfield, they played the 13th annual throwback baseball game. It's heated two days a year, Brendan Haney, who played for the East team for the fifth straight year, said. We divide ourselves to play baseball on the Fourth of July and we have a throwback football game on Thanksgiving. Weve done some really great things, SPAR (Springfield Preservation and Renovation) has done some great things, and the area has really improved. But all of the sweat will be worth it for the team that wins the game.
