Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel says his government should “immediately” focus on implementing urgent transformations to the island’s economic and social model as oil reserves in the Caribbean country dwindle.

As U.S. seizures of oil tankers linked to Venezuela surge, so do concerns in Cuba about whether the island’s government and economy will survive.

Cuba is reaffirming its alliance with Russia through a series of agreements considered key for the island nation, including on oil and fuel supply, the sale of wheat and the resumption of flights between both countries.
