The City of Jacksonville approved a $2 billion budget early Wednesday that includes just under $1 million for affordable housing, a fraction of what some council members had sought.
The city says the new system will streamline the civil plan review and permitting process, speeding up approvals for developers and contractors.
The city’s Finance Committee held its final meeting on Friday to review the proposed $2 billion budget before it heads to the full city council for a vote. During the meeting, however, council members approved a series of amendments introduced by Council member Rory Diamond, known as the “Big Beautiful Budget Amendments.”
Jacksonville Councilman Rory Diamond said Florida DOGE is coming to the city to “identify and report on excessive spending at the city and county level.”
