It was 38 years ago this week that 37 brave sailors aboard the USS Stark gave their lives during a catastrophic missile attack in the Persian Gulf.

Today, the Navy’s latest Freedom-variant Littoral Combat Ship, USS Beloit (LCS 29), made its way to its new homeport at Naval Station Mayport. This milestone follows its commissioning on Nov. 23 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

One person has been taken to the hospital in critical condition on Saturday after a dredge vessel caught fire near a basin in Mayport, according to the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department.
