New viewing spots along Jacksonville’s Southbank will give residents more options to watch the New Year’s Eve fireworks, but city officials are reminding people that parking and traffic downtown could be challenging.

Nearly a week after Downtown Vision, Inc., released its 2025 State of Downtown comprehensive report, the Special Committee on the Future of Downtown held a meeting Monday to get an update from the Downtown Investment Authority.

As the public parks at the new Southbank neighborhood prepare to open, a $2.87 million sculpture, The Pearl, will soon stand at its Central Park. Kenny L. wants to know who is paying for The Pearl.

The site of a former JEA power station on the Southbank is being redesigned into RiversEdge, a huge mixed-use development with homes, hotels, retail, restaurants and four public parks. Jacksonville Today reader D.U. notes that many of the public roads appear done. You just aren’t supposed to drive on them, D.U. says.

Jacksonville is becoming the city of renderings as developers are unveiling projects left and right that they hope will be built throughout the city.
