Experts call it “warning fatigue,” and no one can be sure what role it might have played in a tragedy that killed at least 49 people when the remnants of Hurricane Ida swept through the northeast.

iStock/junial(CNN) - Deandre Somerville spent 10 days in a Florida jail after he overslept and didn't show up for jury duty, but the judge now says he won't have a criminal record. The judge reduced Somerville's punishment on Friday after the young man appealed his case in court. "Before my hearing, I walked into the courtroom a free man with no criminal record," Somerville said in court on Friday. Friends and family told the judge that Somerville helps care for his disabled grandfather and volunteers in his community, CNN affiliate WPTV reported. He said the publicity surrounding the case made this clear, so Somerville's punishment was no longer necessary.

Deandre Somerville of West Palm Beach was picked to be a juror on Aug. 20, according to multiple reports. He told NBC News that he searched online about what would happen if a juror missed court. "I should have called," Somerville told NBC News. The judge sentence Somerville to 10 days in jail, one year of probation, 150 hours of community service and a $223 fine to cover court costs. He told NBC News that while he regrest his actions, he believes his jail sentence was "a little overdone" and that his probation sentence was unnecessary.
