A court in the Russian capital has handed a 15-day sentence to a U.S. citizen on charges of disorderly conduct.

In its statement, Vector said that no biohazard material was being stored in the room where the explosion took place. Founded in 1974, the Center for Virology and Biotechnology was once known for developing biological weapons research during the Cold War Soviet era. The head of the Koltsovo science city, where Vector is located, told Russian state news agency RIA-Novosti that there was no biological threat. The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is the only other center in the world approved and known to have live samples of the deadly smallpox virus.

(CNN) - Russia launched two ballistic missiles from nuclear-powered submarines in the Arctic Ocean and the Barents Sea on Saturday, according to a tweet from the Russian Ministry of Defense. Described as a successful test launch, the missiles were part of combat training, the ministry said. Video of the missiles' launch was also shown in the tweet. "Nuclear powered submarines Tula and Yuri Dolgoruky launch ballistic missiles Sineva and Bulava from Circumpolar region of the Arctic Ocean and the Barents Sea," the tweet read. The ministry said that the launches confirmed the technical properties of the missiles and the performance of all missile systems on submarines.

(CNN) - A spacecraft carrying Russia's humanoid robot failed to dock with the International Space Station on Saturday morning, Russian state news agencies reported. Fedor, also known as Skybot F-850, is a life-sized, artificially intelligent robot sent to space by Russia. Live broadcast of the docking on the Russian space agency Roskomos was interrupted with the Soyuz spacecraft about 100 meters (109 yards) off the ISS, news agency AFP reported. "Russian cosmonauts issued a command to abort the automated approach of an uncrewed Russian Soyuz spacecraft to the International Space Station after the craft was unable to lock onto its target at the station's space-facing Poisk module," NASA confirmed. The crew and the ISS are safe," said Russia's space agency Roskosmos in a tweet.

"The brief rise of the radiation level was registered in Severodvinsk at about noon," said Kseniya Yudina, a spokeswoman for the city, TASS reported. The Arkhangelsk regional governor told TASS that the area around the explosion would not be evacuated. State news agency RIA-Novosti, citing regional law enforcement, put the casualty toll higher, saying two people died and 15 were injured in the explosion. The agency told RIA-Novosti the incident occurred 30 kilometers from the city of Severodvinsk, and that circumstances were being clarified.

ACHINSK, Russia - A state of emergency has been declared in a Siberian district where a fire at a military warehouse used to store artillery shells set off a series of huge explosions, Russian state news agency TASS reported. Thousands of residents are being evacuated from the 20 kilometer (12 mile) zone around the base near the city of Achinsk, TASS said, quoting the Russian Emergencies Ministry. Emergency personnel have been sent to the area, according to a statement from Achinsk district officials. It's not yet clear what caused the warehouse fire, but vast wildfires have been blazing in Siberia for weeks, fueled by exceptionally hot weather. In Siberia, the fires span an area almost the size of Belgium, Reuters reported, while others are raging in Greenland and parts of Alaska.
