The oldest was a 46-year-old woman from Guatemala City, also with major injuries. The Border Patrol said surveillance video showed the Expedition and a Chevrolet Suburban drive through an opening in the border wall about 30 miles (48 kilometers) east of the crash. The Expedition soon struck the tractor-trailer, whose driver, a 68-year-old man from El Centro, suffered major injuries.

CNNOTAY MESA, California (CNN) - A shipment of jalapeos from Mexico to the US proved to be carrying more than just a spicy kick when Border Patrol agents found nearly 4 tons of marijuana hidden in the cargo. The discovery was made Thursday when a truck driver was flagged for a secondary inspection at the Otay Mesa border crossing in California. During the inspection, a K-9 team alerted officers to the peppers, according to a press release from US Customs and Border Protection. Inside the pallets of peppers officers discovered over 300 green packages that field-tested for marijuana. "I am proud of the officers for seizing this significant marijuana load," said Otay Mesa Port Director Rosa Hernandez in the press release.

He was not part of the original group of 14, the spokesman said. Fire and US Customs and Border Protection officials transported three people to local hospitals. The Rio Grande forms the border between El Paso and Ciudad Juarez in Mexico.

(CNN) - A US Border Patrol agent from Clint, Texas is accused of using Facebook to harass the mother of a 12-year-old migrant child who was in custody, The Washington Post reported Wednesday. According to the report, "a U.S. Border Patrol agent allegedly sought out an undocumented Guatemalan woman living in California, sent her Facebook messages and asked her to watch a live video of him masturbating all while her 12-year-old son was in custody at the Border Patrol station in Clint, Tex., where he worked." The story was based on an April complaint filed with US Customs and Border Protection obtained by the Post, and interviews with the child's mother, according to the Post. In a statement to CNN, CBP said the agency "is aware and is investigating this matter, but cannot comment on an ongoing investigation." This alleged conduct is not in line with our code of conduct and will not be tolerated," the statement said.

(CNN) - US Border Patrol apprehensions along the southern border dropped in June for the first month since January, according to preliminary internal data obtained by CNN. There were nearly 95,000 apprehensions on the US-Mexico border last month, down about 28% from 132,887 in May -- the highest month in more than a decade. Despite the drop, this June was much higher than the same time last year, when there were 34,089 apprehensions. The numbers are in line with forecasts from acting Homeland Security Secretary Kevin McAleenan, who said Friday that it appeared there would be a 25% decrease in June numbers of migrants crossing at the US-Mexico border. The numbers come amid public outcry over reports that migrant children were held under poor health and hygiene conditions at multiple Border Patrol locations in Texas.
