Jacksonville Beach police say teen's car left JTB, hit tree, landed in ditch

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A 17-year-old was killed Friday night in a single-car crash, according to the Jacksonville Beach Police Department.

Police said Dominic Allmond was alone in a car that crashed just after 11 p.m. on J. Turner Butler Boulevard just before the Marsh Landing Parkway exit.

Officers said the vehicle left JTB, struck a tree and landed submerged in a ditch. He was pulled from the water by first responders but had already died.

A GoFundMe has been created for Allmond, if you would like to donate click here.

The investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing.

Allmond attended Bishop Kenny High School. His father is the basketball coach at the school.

The school released this statement:

With great sadness, we announce the death of Dominic Michael Byron Allmond, Bishop Kenny High School class of 2020. Dominic was killed in an automobile accident Friday night. Students will gather on Monday for Mass.

"Throughout the week grief counselors will be available for students. Please join us in praying for the repose of his soul and the consolation of his family.

"Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord and let perpetual light shine upon him. May he rest in peace. May his soul and the souls of the faithful departed rest in peace.

"In this moment of sorrow the Lord is in our midst and consoles us with his word: Blessed are the sorrowful; they shall be comforted. Amen."

At a Saturday night vigil, Jordon Creatura said he had been a classmate of Allmond since sixth grade.

"Dom was always happy, knew how to make everybody smile," Creatura said. "Never saw him mad or upset about anything. Never let anybody get the best of him. Always the life of the party. Very smart, very bright and I loved him a lot."

A Mass in remembrance of Allmond will be held at 8:15 a.m. Monday at Bishop Kenny. Grief counselors will also be available to students and staff.
