No injuries when Amtrak train hits garbage truck in Putnam County FHP says no injuries, but crossing north of Bostwick blocked
BOSTWICK, Fla. – An Amtrak train collided with a dump truck late Wednesday morning along U.S. 17 just north of Bostwick in southern Putnam County.
The Florida Highway Patrol said there were 109 passengers aboard the train, but there were no injuries.
According to the crash report, Alexander, 61, of East Palatka, was driving a Mack truck across the rural crossing without lights or a crossing arms. Troopers said he failed to see the train coming. The dump truck was pushed off the road and into a ditch.
The Amtrak 97 Silver Service train did not derail but there was visible damage to the engine.
The train remained at the scene and the crossing was blocked by investigators for more than an hour.
