I-295 southbound was closed to all traffic starting at 10 a.m. Wednesday while the forklift was removed.

Traffic was diverted onto Dunn Avenue and detoured toward U.S. 1.

The highway reopened just after 11 a.m., much earlier than expected.

Troopers said the semi driver, Daniel Egyed, 57, of Middleburg, was taken to a hospital, where he died. A passenger, Charles Kruse, 39, of Jacksonville, was hospitalized with injuries described as serious.

According to FHP, Egyed lost control of the tractor trailer, drove off the road into a wooded area and hit a tree. It's unclear what caused him to lose control.
