Police were called around 11:45 p.m. to the back parking lot of the Walgreens at 7224 Merrill Road, where they found Venegas unresponsive. He died at the scene.

Officers say evidence leads them to believe Venegas was hit by a car and then dragged for a short distance before he died.

JSO said the driver sped away from the scene.

Walgreens provided the following statement on the incident after being contacted by News4JAX:

We are aware of the incident that took place. We are cooperating with law enforcement, and further questions should be directed to them.
