JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A woman was killed and two men were seriously hurt in a chain-reaction crash Sunday night on I-10 eastbound near U.S. 301, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Troopers said a 33-year-old woman and a 43-year-old man, both from Lake City, were stopped in traffic on I-10 eastbound around 6:45 p.m. when a pickup truck slammed into the back of their car, pushing them forward into a truck stopped in front of them.

The woman, who was driving the car, died at the scene. Her passenger and the 24-year-old man from St. Johns who was driving the pick-up that hit them were both seriously injured, FHP said.

Troopers said that after the initial collision with the car, the 24-year-old’s truck veered onto the shoulder, hit the guardrail and then ricocheted into the pick-up truck that was in front of the car stopped in traffic.

The 23-year-old man driving the second pick-up truck and his 21-year-old female passenger were not hurt, according to the report.

FHP said everyone involved except the 24-year-old was wearing a seat belt at the time.
