Deadly pedestrian crash at Merrill Road and I-295 (WJXT)

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A 70-year-old Jacksonville man died Tuesday night when he was hit by two vehicles while trying to cross Merrill Road at the I-295 eastbound entrance ramp, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Troopers said the man was using a marked crosswalk around 9:15 p.m. when he was hit by a Toyota Camry that was trying to get onto I-295 eastbound from Merrill Road.

The impact knocked the man onto the grass shoulder.
FHP said that the driver of an F-150 was trying to help the driver of the Camry, but as he pulled onto the grass shoulder, his truck ran over the pedestrian, who later died at the hospital.
The 62-year-old driving the Camry and the 47-year-old driving the pick-up were not hurt, according to the report. Both men are from Jacksonville and were wearing seat belts.
