Hurricane Matthew: Latest closures for bridges, roads

As bridges and roads close because of damage and flooding from Hurricane Matthew, we will provide a list of current closures below.

Duval County

The Dames Point Bridge was closed just before 11 a.m. Friday because of high winds, according to the Florida Department of Transportation.  

About 1:30 a.m. Saturday, the Dames Point Bridge reopened, the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said.

Less than 30 minutes later, the Sheriff's Office said the Hart Expressway was closed in both directions from Beach Boulevard to University Boulevard due to downed trees.

The Intracoastal Waterway Bridges at Atlantic Boulevard, Beach Boulevard, J.Turner Butler Boulevard and Wonderwood Drive are closed, but the ICW bridges are expected to reopen at noon. The Wonderwood bridge will remain closed.

Trees are down across the area, resulting in some street closures, no reports of major arteries being blocked.

Jacksonville International Airport said Air Canada, Allegiant, Silver and Southwest airlines flights have been canceled Saturday. For all other flights, passengers should contact the airline.

St. Johns County

All bridges in St. Johns County except the Julington Creek Bridge and Matanzas Bridge were closed, according to the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office. The State Road 210 bridge opened about 11:30 a.m. Saturday.

There was damage to the U.S. 312 Bridge and structural issues are being checked.

Many streets in downtown St. Augustine and St. Augustine Beach are flooded, but that area was included in the mandatory evacuation area.

St. Johns County Fire Rescue units from Station 16 (World Golf Village) are on scene at a natural gas leak in the 200 block of Murabella Parkway. Hazardous Materials specialists have isolated the leak and are working with TECO to resolve the issue. As a precaution, a section of Pacetti Road between SR 16 and Samara Lakes Parkway has been closed to traffic. Residents in the area who are customers of TECO will experience service interruptions.

Clay County

The Shands Bridge in Green Cove Springs is closed. The shoulder on the approach to bridge is damaged.

Flager County

News4Jax is trying to confirm reports that portions of A1A collapsed after being undermined by storm surge.

Southeast Georgia

The Georgia Department of Transportation closed the Sidney Lanier Bride on State Road 25 in Brunswick at 10 a.m. Friday because of gale-force winds.

The bridge connects Interstate 95 to downtown Brunswick and Jekyll Island.
