Above normal temperatures in February wrap up the warmest winter in Jacksonville in 60 years

According to the National Weather Service office in Jacksonville, February had well above average temperatures and no nights below freezing, an occurrence which has not taken place in 16 years. Conditions were much drier than average, with only a few incidents of precipitation associated with frontal passages. This February marks over 12 months of consecutive above average monthly temperatures. Although no tornadoes occurred in Jacksonville, two EF1 tornadoes were reported in Bradford and St Johns Counties in association with the passage of a strong squall line on February . 7th. A period of strong prevailing westerly winds and gusts in excess of 40 to 50 mph pushed through the forecast region on the 15th.

The National Weather Service of Jacksonville reports that at the Airport location, The average temperature for February was 62.3 degrees which is 5.9 degrees above normal for Jacksonville International Airport. February 2017 was the 17th warmest on record for Jacksonville with records dating back through 1871. The average daily high was 75.8 degrees and the average daily low was 48.8 degrees. The maximum temperature for the month was 87 degrees on the 28th. The minimum for the month was 34 degrees which occurred on the 17th. There were two daily max temperature records set during the month of February. A daily record maximum temperature of 81 degrees was set at Jacksonville on February 7th. This broke the old daily record of 80 degrees set in 1904. Additionally, the daily record high temperature was tied on February 28th with a high of 87 degrees. This tied the old record set in 1962. There were zero days with a low temperature of 32 degrees or below, making this the first time this has occurred since 2001.

In terms of rainfall, the National Weather Service reports the JAX airport location saw 3 days of measurable rainfall in February at Jacksonville International Airport. Monthly rainfall totaled 1.35 inches which is 1.84 inches below normal. The greatest 24 hour total in February was 0.81 inches on February 22nd. There were no precipitation records set in February.

March started off with a rather warm bang, breaking the high temperature record for the day on March 1st. The previous record was 87°, set in 1997 and afternoon highs hit 88°. Here is the outlook for the month of March from the National Weather Service:
