JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Weeks after Hurricane Irma, some people living at an apartment complex in Jacksonville's Beauclerc neighborhood said nothing has been done to clean up the damage.
Neighbors told News4Jax on Thursday that people living on the first floor of the Beauclerc Bay Apartments had to be relocated because the mold from the flooding was so bad.
Kristin Carter said she's had maintenance issues while living at the Beauclerc Bay Apartments since she moved in one year ago.
"The refrigerator has been leaking since we've moved in," Carter said. "My daughter's friend actually got E.coli from it."
But after Irma flooded the building and her cars, Carter said, the damage got worse.
"Now we have (a) roach infestation, fire ants and carpenter ants. Bees are really bad," she said.
Neighbors said they already had issues with the building sloping before the storm. But after Irma, they said they started to see cracks in the foundation.
Carter said mold continues to grow inside the apartments, and management hasn't been any help.
"I was told I would have somebody come out to clean my carpets to freshen it up -- instead of fixing my roof," Carter said.
News4Jax reached out to management for comment, but has not yet heard back.
"Here lately, with as much damage as we've had from the hurricane, my biggest fear is that I'm going to be coming home from work and find the back half of my apartment is gone because it's sinking -- and lose my kids, lose my dogs, lose my cats," Carter said.
Carter said she just hopes something can be done soon before it's too late.
On Thursday, News4Jax did see workers at the apartment complex, cleaning the first floor. But neighbors said they're hoping they can work quickly.
