JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – It’s heating up, folks! With temperatures hitting the mid-90s, we’re nearing record highs, and it’s only spring. News4JAX’s meteorologist Richard Nunn has the latest on what to expect as we head into the weekend.
High heat levels this spring
Things are warming up with temperatures around 94 degrees, with previous records sitting at 97 degrees for this time of year. You might think it’s summertime already, but these temperatures are somewhat unexpected for May and more typical for June.
Rising humidity on the horizon
While the heat is what we’re all noticing right now, humidity is expected to become a bigger factor as we approach the weekend. Starting low, it will rise by Sunday, making the air a bit more uncomfortable. Remember, it’s the kind of weather that feels a bit ‘sticky’.
Staying safe in the heat, for humans and pets
It’s not just us feeling the heat—our pets are also affected, especially on hot surfaces. Road temperatures can soar to 120 to 125 degrees, potentially damaging tender pet paws. If you’re out walking a dog, try sticking to cooler times or surfaces.
With safety in mind, it’s a good idea to stay hydrated and take regular breaks if you’re outdoors. Be sure to catch Richard Nunn’s latest updates to stay ahead of the weather, and consider sharing your experiences and photos through SnapJAX at https://www.news4jax.com/snapjax/.
