Short-lived tropical depression could form out in Atlantic east of Bermuda

Disturbance in the Central Subtropical Atlantic (National Hurricane Center)

A disorganized area of showers and thunderstorms and an area of low pressure about 600 miles east of Bermuda has a high chance of developing into a short-lived tropical depression on Monday.

But the window is small.

Satellite images indicate that environmental conditions are still marginally favorable for further development, but by Tuesday, those conditions are expected to shift and become less favorable.

An increase in thunderstorm activity on Monday could result in the formation of a short-lived tropical depression in the Central Subtropical Atlantic.

The system is forecast to move northeastward around 10 mph, remaining over the open central Atlantic.

Even if it forms into a depression, it will not be a threat to land.

The formation chance through 48 hours and seven days is at 70%, which is considered high.
