Jacksonville braces for summertime showers and heat. What to expect this weekend

Scattered storms, rising temperatures, and the unpredictability of summer take center stage in this week’s outlook

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – If you’ve stepped outside today, you might have felt that summer is settling in across Jacksonville and nearby areas.

The region is experiencing a classic summer weather pattern—expect scattered showers, some thunderstorms, and that unpredictable feeling only summer storms can bring.

Showers have already cropped up in Southeast Georgia this morning, with some lightning observed, and more rainfall is forecast for later today. Patterns indicate a possible break in rain during the afternoon, but expect more pop-up downpours as the evening arrives, especially from about 8 to 10 p.m.

In the summer months, showers often form unexpectedly and can be highly localized.

Following Exact Track 4D radar is advised to stay one step ahead, especially as these storms tend to have a mind of their own.

Jacksonville forecast: Rising temperatures and localized rainfall

Temperatures are climbing fast today, Jacksonville is already approaching 80 degrees in the morning.

High temperatures are forecast to reach 92 degrees for Jacksonville, while the beaches and coastal communities can expect highs in the upper 80s. Southeast Georgia will likely see similar heat, with some spots reaching 93 degrees.

As for rainfall, those along the coast should plan for about half an inch of rain, while areas like McClinney are forecast to get up to 1.25 inches. The heaviest showers are expected northward in Southeast Georgia, but don’t be surprised if a couple of pop-up showers make their way into Florida or onto the beaches.

These numbers are forecasts from The Weather Authority’s Exact Track 4D, and conditions remain subject to change—especially with the highly variable nature of summer patterns.

Track the storms: Why your weather app is essential

With pop-up showers swirling unpredictably across the region, News4JAX’s meteorologist strongly recommends keeping the station’s weather app handy. The app lets you follow changing radar images and track showers based on your precise location—helpful as storms can develop quickly in one neighborhood while leaving others dry.

Even though chances for rain fluctuate throughout the day, the advice is clear: “Don’t cancel your plans—just track the radar and follow us,” the meteorologist says. This is typical for summer, and wet afternoons are likely through Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

Looking ahead: Wet afternoons likely into the weekend

Rain chances increase heading into the weekend, with multiple rounds of afternoon showers possible from Friday through Sunday.
