High temperatures, afternoon storms continue to dominate the week across Northeast Florida

Extreme heat in the Jacksonville area to stick around

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Weather Authority is tracking a stretch of intense summer heat, with Jacksonville’s highs forecast to reach 92 degrees today.

That’s just the beginning—according to The Weather Authority’s Exact Track 4D, temperatures through the rest of the week are expected to climb steadily, topping out near 98 degrees on Sunday and Monday.

This surge of warmth is typical for early summer, but still tough to handle for anyone heading outdoors.

St. Augustine and Ponte Vedra are a bit cooler, expected to hit about 82 degrees. Inland areas don’t get much relief, and even by the beach, the forecast suggests warm, humid days.

The seven-day forecast highlights a run of daytime highs in the low to upper 90s, leaving little chance for significant cooling anytime soon.

Pop-up storms likely each afternoon

Expect more than just sunshine: The Weather Authority forecasts a daily chance of showers and thunderstorms, especially during afternoon and evening hours.

While today starts off mild and mostly clear, pop-up thunderstorms are likely to form after noon. These storms could be heavy at times, but severe weather is not currently expected.

Most days will offer at least a 50% rain chance, based on the latest rainfall forecasts.

Jacksonville and Green Cove Springs might see up to an inch of rain in the next two days, with Macclenny possibly receiving about 1.25 inches.

Coastal communities are expected to stay somewhat drier, so a beach afternoon might be a good option if you need a break from the heat.

Keep an umbrella in your car, because storms can move in fast—making a quick grocery run or afternoon errand much wetter than expected.

Staying cool and keeping life moving

It’s a good week to double-check your cooling systems at home and take advantage of any breezy beach days.

For anyone who loves gardening, rain chances mean less watering is needed—Mother Nature is likely to do most of the work.

But the heat and daily downpours will keep the grass growing fast, so keeping up with mowing is a must.

With summer construction slowing some drives and afternoon pop-up showers always a threat, remember to give yourself extra travel time and stay flexible with outdoor plans.
