More rain and flooding as storms persist

Daily showers, and eyes on the tropics

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – We are in for a run of wet days; folks will want to keep an umbrella handy, as rain chances remain elevated. Tomorrow’s outlook puts afternoon storm risks back at 60 to 70 percent, along with the familiar sticky, humid air and highs in the low 90s.

Tropical systems tracked, but impacts uncertain

In addition to local storms, the tropics are receiving close attention. Tropical Storm Dexter continues spinning in the Atlantic, where it remains a weak, disorganized system with 40 mph winds. Dexter is not projected to reach land as it is moving further out to sea.

Another disturbance near the Bahamas is worth watching, currently given a 40 percent chance of developing further. However, satellite data shows it is still disorganized, and the next few days will be critical in determining its path. Meanwhile, a fresh tropical wave has just rolled west from the African coast. Early forecast models are in close agreement through Friday but start to diverge considerably over the weekend, leaving significant uncertainty on its eventual direction or intensity. The presence of large swaths of dry air in the Atlantic could also limit this system’s development, at least initially.

What to expect for the rest of the week

The seven-day forecast from The Weather Authority calls for a steady parade of afternoon storms, with temperatures hanging in the low 90s and overnight lows in the 70s. This unsettled pattern is likely to last into the weekend, with high rain chances each afternoon and enough humidity to make things feel muggy throughout the day.
