Jacksonville faces coastal flood warnings as winds and high tides persist

Strong winds and coastal flood alerts continue

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Hey everyone, I want to make sure you’re ready for another day where the coast really demands some attention.

Right now, a coastal flood advisory is ongoing for Northeast Florida—especially places like St. Augustine, Palm Coast, and nearby beaches. We’re watching those tides closely, because they are expected to bring some flooding to local areas through the weekend.

Our Exact Track 4D radar is picking up on those stalled weather patterns and a persistent nor’easter, which are both fueling these higher tide levels.

This means spots along the coast could see water pooling, especially as the tides rise. If you live near any of those coastal spots, it’s a good idea to keep your flood plans nearby and check local alerts before making any beach or boating plans.

Winds and rip current risks remain high

Now, let’s talk about the wind! The breeze is already up this morning, with sustained speeds in the teens and gusts climbing toward 30 mph along the coast—especially near the beaches.

Inland, Jacksonville is forecast to experience gusts up to 24 mph, with Palatka close behind at 25. These wind speeds are making the rip current risk especially high today.

You’ll definitely feel that wind if you’re out by the water, so take it extra easy if you’re heading to the beach and be sure to watch for those warning flags. It’s not a day to take chances in the water.

Looking ahead: Temperatures and rain

Temperatures are running a little cooler than usual for this time of year.

Jacksonville sits at 68 degrees this morning, and the coast is holding steady in the low to mid-70s. You’re also going to notice a bit more humidity, with the breeze coming out of the north.

For all you early risers, the bus stop forecast looks comfortable—morning temps around 71 degrees with partly sunny skies, warming up to 82 degrees by mid-afternoon. That’s a great setup for after-school sports and evening activities.

Rain chances are pretty low for today and tomorrow, just 20%—mostly limited to areas south and toward Palm Coast and St. Augustine. Most folks will stay dry, and even the rain that does pop up should taper off quickly.

As we roll into the weekend, those below-average highs stick around (think mid-80s rather than the typical 88). We expect a slight uptick in showers Friday through Sunday, but nothing major right now. By the time Monday and Tuesday arrive, more sunshine is expected and temperatures should return to average.
