JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Good morning! Many of you woke up to a Freeze Warning and some seriously frosty weather. This is the kind of cold that’ll have you digging deep in your closet for that heavy coat.
The Freeze Warning expired at 8 a.m., but the chilly temperatures haven’t left just yet.
This isn’t just a case of “it feels chilly”—we’re seeing actual temperatures dropping to around 33 degrees here in town, with the coast not much warmer. Some of our neighbors in Georgia are dipping below freezing as well.
Now, here’s the kicker: wind chills are making it feel a whole lot colder. Some spots could feel like the 20s, especially before the sun comes up. So, if you’re out and about, my biggest advice is to bundle up and check on anyone who might need a little extra warmth this morning.
I was downtown yesterday and saw folks handing out blankets, just looking out for one another. That kind of kindness means a lot on a day like this.
I’d love to see how you’re braving the chill or giving back. If you’ve got great frost photos or stories about helping out, share them with us at SnapJAX. Let’s look out for each other and get through this together!
Wind gusts and dry conditions stick around
And let’s talk about the wind for a second. Wind gusts are expected to be steady throughout the day—already clocking in around 30 mph in spots and may even pick up as we move through the afternoon. If you left your garbage cans or patio chairs outside, you might want to bring them in! I learned that the hard way myself.
Our high pressure system is doing its job, so we’re expected to stay dry. Exact Track 4D isn’t showing any rain for several days—just a little cloud cover here and there. Visibility looks clear too, which helps make this cold snap a little easier to manage.
Warming up by the weekend
We’re looking at a cold day all the way through, with hourly temps struggling to get above 40 degrees until much later this morning. If you’re thinking about outdoor plans, especially for the kids (since there’s no school for Veterans Day), maybe consider something indoors.
The chill isn’t quite done yet—tomorrow morning will be another cold one, likely well below freezing in several places. But here’s the good news: we’re expected to warm up pretty quickly as we get closer to the weekend.
By Thursday and Friday, highs should climb into the 60s and 70s. The 7-day outlook shows highs near 78 degrees for Saturday and Sunday, with lows making their way up to around 50. So if you’re already counting down the days to shed the heavy layers, you won’t have to wait long!
