Warmer temperatures, much-needed rain on the way as area faces precipitation deficit

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – We woke up to a crisp 42 degrees out at the airport—Macclenny’s a bit chillier around 39—while the coast is holding in the 50s.

Here’s some good news: tonight’s lows are forecast to be much milder, running in the 50s or even 60s across the area. Our average high is about 67 degrees, but we’re set to pass that. Expect highs in the 70s for the next stretch.

Rain on the way

We really need this rain, and I want to be honest with you—it’s not just a little behind. We’re well below where we should be with precipitation this time of year, and we’re not going to catch up by the new year.

Any rain we get is going to be great news. A few light showers may slip in from the Atlantic today, but I’m expecting the real, soaking rain to arrive tomorrow. Keep an eye out just after the noon hour for some rain starting to move in.

Where it gets interesting is tomorrow night. Between about 7 p.m. and 11 p.m., Exact Track 4D is showing the best chance for heavier rain—though it’s only about a 40 percent chance, so not everyone will get a good soaker. Right now, the rain looks more likely if you’re up in Georgia through Mayport or north of Jacksonville.

If you get some decent rain in your backyard, I’d love to see what your rain gauge shows. You can share photos or video right to SnapJAX.

Wind gusts dropping back

If you’ve noticed a calmer day, you’re not wrong. The wind gusts that kicked up earlier this week have really started to settle down, which I think we can all appreciate!

Exact Track 4D shows these gusts trending lower moving forward, so windy weather shouldn’t be much of an issue in the next couple of days.
