Jacksonville will have a warm, sunny Christmas as drought persists

Dry weather ahead for holiday travel and shopping

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Hey, Jacksonville! I know a lot of folks are getting in the holiday spirit, and let me tell you, it’s about to feel more like spring than winter here in our corner of Florida.

Christmas Day is expected to be a real treat if you like it warm and sunny.

We’ll likely see highs right around 78 degrees. You can break out the outdoor toys, bikes, or even just take a walk under clear skies—no snow flurries in sight!

If you’re making last-minute plans, you’re in for a comfortable stretch.

Daytime temperatures are forecast to stick to the upper 70s all the way through the holiday, dipping just a bit to 66 degrees as we move into next week.

The mornings will start cool, in the 50s, but things will warm up nicely by afternoon.

Drought condition concerns

While it’s great news for holiday fun, the sunny streak is part of a bigger pattern: it’s very, very dry out there.

Some parts of Georgia are currently experiencing severe drought, and we’re nearly 10 inches below average for rainfall this year across North Florida and the southern parts of Georgia.

There’s no real relief in sight based on current Exact Track 4D outlooks, so it’s something we’ll continue to keep an eye on here at The Weather Authority.

Perfect weather for travel and shopping

If you’ve got family flying in, gifts to pick up, or just want to enjoy the outdoors, you’re in luck. Skies are mostly clear, with a few light clouds here and there, and wind gusts are expected to stay pretty mild, around 5 to 10 mph.

Whether you’re heading out early at 8 a.m. when it’s about 56 degrees or shopping in the afternoon with temps peaking in the mid-70s, there’s no weather excuse to skip your errands.

Airport conditions are also looking good with clear skies, making for smooth sailing if you or your loved ones are traveling.
