Christmas Eve forecast: Unseasonably warm, dry weather and ongoing drought

Holiday to bring above-average temps, little rain to Jacksonville area

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The story this year is all about warmth and sunshine. We’re looking at almost 80 degrees in Jacksonville over Christmas Eve and Christmas Day—yes, you read that right!

Skies will be mostly clear day and night, and the weather outside is about as nice as it gets for December.

If you’re planning to get out and enjoy the day, whether you’re walking the dog or just taking in the sights, it’s a perfect time to soak up the mild conditions.

Rain deficit and drought concerns

Now, let’s talk about rain—because we need it. Right now, we’re running a deficit in Jacksonville by just about 10 inches, which is pretty significant.

Drought conditions continue, and you’ll definitely see that impact across the area, especially up into parts of Georgia where there’s a severe drought ongoing.

According to our Exact Track 4D radar and outlook graphics, there’s just no meaningful rain in the forecast for the next seven days.

As much as I’d love to bring you tidings of rain to help our lawns and lakes, it’s simply not expected to happen this week.

Dense fog for holiday travelers

If you or your loved ones are traveling for the holidays, be on the lookout for some dense fog—particularly in spots like Macclenny.

Visibility may drop to zero in low-lying areas, especially during early morning hours. That fog will likely shift and change throughout the day, so stay alert on the road.

The good news? Winds are calm, so once the fog lifts, driving should be easy with our above-average temperatures hanging around.
