Record-breaking highs possible on Saturday before winter returns in Northeast Florida, Southeast Georgia

Saturday forecast

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – From Southeast Georgia to Northeast Florida, record highs were tied on Friday. Expect another day of springlike weather to grace our area before the next wave of cold air sinks in on Sunday.

Alma, Georgia, tied a record high of 80 degrees, while both Gainesville and Jacksonville hit 83 degrees, tying records set in 1989 and 1974, respectively. Another tie is likely in the books today - 82 degrees in Jacksonville set in 1957. Gainesville’s record is 85 degrees from 1937, Alma 80 degrees in 1949. Fun fact: Craig Airfield’s record for today is 79 degrees in 2014.

An approaching cold front Saturday night will change the springlike temperatures to winter beginning Sunday after the Jaguars game.

Jags forecast
