JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Let’s talk about what’s heading our way — a strong cold front that’s set to shake up our week.
Right now, we’re seeing colder and breezier conditions—and it’s only expected to get chillier. Today, the high tops out at just 59 degrees, and by Friday, lows are forecast to slip below freezing.
If you brought all your heavy coats out of the closet, you made the right call. Our weather is about to go from mild to brisk very quickly.
What this means for you
With this front pushing through, there’s more than just the cold to watch. The winds are up—the breeze out at Morningstar Marinas has been clocked at 19 mph today. A small craft advisory is in effect, and there’s a rip current risk, too.
Temperatures along the coast are holding in the 50s, with some spots further inland dipping into the 30s. If you’re heading out early, those layers are really going to matter. I had to crank up the heat in my car today, and I know I’ll be keeping it on all week.
Rain isn’t out of the picture either. By Wednesday, expect a 40 percent chance of spotty showers, and that could stretch into Thursday with a 20 percent chance as the next front moves through. So while most of us stay dry at first, you’ll want to stay weather aware midweek.
Layer up and stay warm
Trust me, I know how crowded that closet gets this time of year—mild and cold weather clothes everywhere! But keep those heavy jackets handy. If the kids are headed to school in the morning, be sure they’ve got extra layers.
We’re only going to see a slow climb in temps each day. Today, we’ll go from the 40s in the morning to just about 59 degrees by afternoon. Tomorrow brings a little more warmth—up to 63 degrees—before another cold push drops us back into the 50s.
By the weekend, we’re looking at lots of sunshine and a slow return to the 60s.
