Warmth today gives way to showers, chilly winds, and another freeze in Southeast Georgia, Northeast Florida

Saturday forecast

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Today will be mostly sunny, but a cold front is on its way. By late afternoon or early evening, expect isolated to scattered showers, which will become more widespread by Sunday morning.

Overnight lows will dip to the lower to mid-30s in Southeast Georgia and upper 30s to mid-40s in Northeast Florida.

Rain is needed! With about half to three-quarters of an inch north of I-10 from Saturday night through Sunday morning. South of I-10, expect closer to a quarter-inch.

Sunday rainfall

Skies will clear from west to east Sunday afternoon, but a chilly northwesterly breeze will keep highs in the 40s for most areas, except for some spots in north central and coastal northeast Florida, where highs will be in the lower 50s.

A Freeze Watch is in effect for beginning Sunday at midnight through 9 a.m. Monday. This will become a Freeze Warning by late Saturday, early Sunday.

Freeze Watch

Looking ahead to a chilly Monday, which is a holiday for most folks, cold air will continue to move in as an Arctic high-pressure system builds over the region. This could bring wind chills near Cold Weather Advisory levels.

Expect another hard freeze inland in Southeast Georgia, with a light freeze elsewhere inland and coastal Southeast Georgia. Coastal Northeast Florida should stay a bit warmer, with lows in the mid to upper 30s thanks to a strengthening breeze overnight.
