Cold snap brings hard freeze, low wind chill

The front that left a blanket of snow and ice from New Mexico to North Carolina is getting ready to blast us with a week of winter!

Today will be the warmest day of the week. Temperatures are already falling and will continue through early Tuesday morning. Multiple freeze and hard freezes this week. Afternoon highs will remain less than seasonal through the weekend. Reinforcing cold air will bring another round of Freeze and Hard Freeze temperatures this weekend.

A Freeze Warning will be in effect from 10 p.m. - 10 a.m. A Cold Weather Advisory due to low wind chill temperatures follows the same times as the Freeze Warning. A Freeze Watch will become a Warning Tuesday into Wednesday morning.

For the Cold Weather Advisory, very cold wind chills as low as 16 degrees is expected. The Freeze Warning, a hard freeze with temperatures as low as 24 expected. The Freeze Watch, sub-freezing temperatures as low as 27 possible.

The cold wind chills as low as 16 degrees could result in hypothermia or frostbite if precautions are not taken. Wind chill values can lead to hypothermia with prolonged exposure. Appropriate action should be taken to ensure tender vegetation and outdoor pets have adequate protection from the cold temperatures.

Tuesday: Freezing Warning and Frost Advisory through 10 a.m. Sunny skies and a bone-chilling breeze! Morning lows in the 20s to low 30s. Wind chill values in the teens and 20s. Afternoon highs in the 40s and 50s. Wind: NW 15-20 mph early then 10 - 15 mph in the afternoon. Freeze Warnings overnight into early Wednesday.
