LIVE RADAR: Extreme Cold Warning issued as bitter chill hits area

A Weather Authority Alert Day has been declared for Saturday evening through Sunday afternoon

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A WEATHER AUTHORITY ALERT DAY is in effect through 1 PM Sunday afternoon for bitterly cold temperatures. Thanks to the wind, wind chill values will easily drop into the single digits and teens by Sunday morning.

A strong area of low pressure will move away from our area later this weekend.

With enough cold air in place, wintry weather is possible for a portion of the Southeast through Sunday morning as colder air moves in behind the system. More specifically across a portion of Georgia and the Carolinas where several inches of snow will be possible.

Wind chill values will fall into the single digits and teens on Sunday.

As the disturbance moves up the coast, we will be on the backside of it. A strong northwesterly wind will usher in bitterly cold air on Sunday. Morning temperatures will be in the teens and twenties and with the wind it will feel like single digits and teens.

An EXTREME COLD WARNING is in effect due to the bitterly cold wind chills. Highs on Sunday will only be in the low to mid 40s. With the wind it will feel like the 30s in the afternoon.

A WIND ADVISORY is in effect.

As mentioned above, the wind will play a big role in making temperatures feel much colder. In fact, winds could gust up to 40 mph at times tonight through Sunday morning. A WIND ADVISORY is in effect for a large portion of our area due to the potential to see gusts up to 40 mph.

Monday will feature sunshine and cool temperatures. Highs for the day will be in the low to mid 50s with a freeze in the morning.

Another disturbance could bring showers to area by the middle to the week with temperatures climbing into the 60s on Tuesday and Wednesday.
