JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The rest of the day will feature a mix of sun and clouds with temperatures near 70 degrees. Tonight will be partly cloudy and cool with lows in the 40s and 50s.
Looking ahead to the upcoming weekend, we will be ahead of another disturbance. Saturday will be partly to mostly cloudy and pleasant with high temperatures in the 70s. A spotty shower can’t be ruled out late, but most spots will remain dry. Things will change on Sunday thanks to an approaching area of low pressure.
The area of low pressure will move into the region on Sunday and will bring our area our most widespread chance of rain over the next seven days. Rain will become widespread later in the afternoon through Monday morning. It will still be warm despite the clouds with temperatures in the mid to upper 70s. Winds could gust up to 30 mph at times as well.
We will certainly take any rain that we can get as our area is in a drought. Around 0.5 to 1.5” of rain can be expected late Sunday through Monday morning.
Drier weather will return to the forecast beyond Monday as a large area of high pressure moves in. Look for sunshine Tuesday through most of the upcoming week with temperatures approaching 80 degrees.
Speaking of the drought, the latest drought monitor reflects the overall pattern over the past few months. The area of “extreme” drought continues to expand in coverage each week and now covers most of our area.
