JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Clouds will increase for the rest of the day and it will be pleasant with high temperatures in the 70s. A spotty shower can’t be ruled out late, but most spots will remain dry. Things will change on Sunday thanks to an approaching front.
The associated front will move into the region on Sunday and will bring our area our most widespread chance of rain over the next seven days. Rain will become widespread later in the afternoon through Monday morning, generally after 4 PM through early Monday morning.
Factoring in temperatures near 80 degrees along with the winds and moisture, the threat for severe weather has increased. In fact, our area has been placed in a risk level 2 out of 5 for seeing severe weather. Damaging winds, small hail, frequent lighting and isolated tornadoes will be possible. We will certainly take any rain that we can get as our area is in a drought. Around 0.5 to 1.5” of rain can be expected late Sunday through Monday morning.
Drier weather will return to the forecast beyond Monday as a large area of high pressure moves in. Look for sunshine Tuesday through most of the upcoming week with temperatures approaching 80 degrees.
Speaking of the drought, the latest drought monitor reflects the overall pattern over the past few months. The area of “extreme” drought continues to expand in coverage each week and now covers most of our area.
