JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A TORNADO WATCH is in effect for our area through 8PM this evening.
A strong front will will bring our area our most widespread chance of rain over the next seven days. A few storms will develop ahead of the main line through 3 PM. The line of showers and storms will move through our area from west to east through 9 PM.
Factoring in temperatures near 80 degrees along with the winds and moisture, the threat for severe weather is elevated. Our area has been placed in a risk level 2 out of 5 for seeing severe weather. We will certainly take any rain that we can get as our area is in a drought. Around 0.5 to 1.5” of rain can be expected late Sunday through Monday morning.
Drier weather will return to the forecast beyond Monday as a large area of high pressure moves in. Look for sunshine Tuesday through most of the upcoming week with temperatures approaching 80 degrees.
Speaking of the drought, the latest drought monitor reflects the overall pattern over the past few months. The area of “extreme” drought continues to expand in coverage each week and now covers most of our area.
