The latest drought monitor for our area.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A strong front brought beneficial rainfall to our area on Sunday, but was it enough to get us out of the drought? Unfortunately, the answer is no due to how significant the drought is.

Keep in mind the latest drought monitor does not take into account the rainfall we picked up on Sunday. Regardless, most of our area is in an “extreme” drought.

Rainfall deficits from the past 365 days.

When looking at our rainfall deficits over the past 365 days, several locations are reporting a deficit of around or above 15″.

Most locations picked up 0.5-1.5" of rain on Sunday.

Despite a large part of our area reporting around 0.5-1.5″ of rain on Sunday, it wasn’t enough to put a big dent in the drought, and little, if any, rain is expected across our area through the end of the week.

Wildfire prevention tips from NWS Jacksonville.

As the drought persists, it’s always important to remember to exercise extreme caution if outdoors and follow fire safety guidelines. Hopefully, as we enter the wet season over the coming months, our area will see more rainfall, but in the short term, it’s not looking promising.
