Approaching cold front brings rainy weather late Saturday after record heat in Jacksonville

Extreme drought conditions continue even with rain in the forecast

Saturday futurecast

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – After soaring past the 1961 record high of 86 degrees on Friday, Jacksonville hit 89 degrees at 3:35 p.m. Saturday could have the same results. The record for today is also 86, set in 2019.

Conditions are ripe for another hot day in Northeast Florida and Southeast Georgia as high pressure moves southeast later this afternoon. Breezy southwest winds 10-15 mph with gusts up to 25 mph will increase throughout the afternoon.

The approaching cold front from the northwest will take a big bite out of the summerlike temperatures, bringing rainy weather later this evening and into Sunday morning. Can’t rule out strong to severe thunderstorm activity throughout the evening in Southeast Georgia.

Rains move out of Northeast Florida by noon on Sunday as temperatures return to normal with highs reaching the upper 60s, low 70s before the cold air sinks in Monday morning. Expect freezing/frosty weather into Tuesday and possibly Wednesday mornings.
