High pressure brings unseasonably warm weather this week

Potential for record highs amid ongoing drought

Temperatures will be well above average on Sunday.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The rest of the day will feature a mix of sun and clouds with temperatures in the 70s and 80s. An isolated shower or storm will be possible, especially along and west of the Saint Johns River.

Dense fog will be possible Sunday morning.

Patchy fog will develop once again tonight and could be dense in some spots. Make sure to plan extra travel time if you are traveling early Sunday morning.

Sunday's high temperatures.

Otherwise, the fog will lift and give way to a mix of sun and clouds. It will be warm with temperatures in the mid to upper 80s. In fact, we could set a new record high temperature for the day at Jacksonville International Airport. Sunday’s record high temperature is 86 in 1974. Fog will redevelop Sunday night and could be dense.

Temperature forecast over the next five days.

High pressure will remain in control for the upcoming week, and near-record high temperatures will be possible Monday through Wednesday. It will be slightly humid as well. Rain coverage looks minimal through the middle of the week with only an isolated shower or storm possible each day.

Rain chances will increase on Thursday as a stronger front moves across our area. This front will bring a brief cooldown into the region later next week. We will certainly take any rain that we can get as our area is in a drought.
