Severe Weather Possible as Front Crosses Area Monday

Front brings risk of severe storms, gusty winds, tornadoes and hail

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Scattered showers and storms will be possible for the rest of the day with temperatures in the 70s and 80s. A few storms may be strong to severe with gusty winds and small hail. Our area is in a risk level 1 out of 5 for seeing severe weather. Small hail, gusty winds and frequent lightning will be possible in any storm.

The front will cross our area on Monday, more specifically in the afternoon and evening. Strong to severe storms will be possible once again between noon and 7 PM.

A portion of our are is now under a risk level 3 out of 5 for seeing severe weather on Monday.

In fact, a portion of our area has been placed in a risk level 3 out of 5 for seeing severe weather. Any storm could contain damaging winds, large hail, frequent lightning and an isolated tornado. Make sure you have a way of getting alerts tomorrow, especially in the afternoon and evening.

Regarding our drought, the latest drought monitor reflects the overall pattern over the past few months. The area of “extreme” drought continues has now expanded to include all of our area. Little if any improvement is expected over the upcoming week.

Colder air will filter in behind Monday's front. Temperatures will drop into the 30s and 40s Tuesday morning.

The front will usher in cooler temperatures next week. Monday will be warm with highs near 80 degrees, but Tuesday and Wednesday will be in the 50s and 60s. Low temperatures for most spots will be in the 40s early next week, with a few areas north and west of the metro in the 30s.
