JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The rest of the day will feature plenty of sunshine and it will be warm with temperatures in the 80s. Tonight will be mild and clear with low temperatures in the 50s.
Patchy fog will be possible overnight, especially away from the coast. Make sure to plan extra travel time if you have to head out early Sunday morning.
Speaking of Sunday, it will be another warm day with temperatures coming close to if not exceeding record levels. It will be sunny and warm with highs in the mid to upper 80s. The record high for Jacksonville International is 89 degrees in 1968.
The fire weather threat will be elevated on Sunday due to a westerly breezy, dry ground and low humidity. Exercise extreme caution if you are outside and make sure to follow the county burn bans in place.
Things will change as we head into the upcoming week. A slow-moving front will approach our area from the north on Monday. It will still be a very warm day with highs in the mid to upper 80s. The record high for Jacksonville International is 89 degrees in 1952. Due to the position of the front being close to our area, a few isolated showers and storms will be possible in the afternoon and evening.
The front will be over our area on Tuesday, so it will be cooler with a mostly cloudy sky. Highs will be near 70 degrees and a few isolated showers and storms will be possible.
High pressure will build back in on Wednesday through the first half of the upcoming weekend. Temperatures will warm from the 70s on Wednesday back into the 80s on Thursday through the weekend.
Regarding the drought, the latest drought monitor reflects the overall pattern over the past few months. The area of “extreme” drought continues to include our entire area. A exceptional drought classification has been introduced to our west for a portion of Florida and Georgia. Little if any improvement is expected over the upcoming week.
