Near-record highs possible on Monday ahead of a cooldown

A system will bring showers and storms as temperatures drop early this week

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The rest of the day will feature plenty of sunshine and it will be warm with temperatures in the 80s. Tonight will be mild and clear with low temperatures in the 50s.

Patchy fog will be possible Monday morning.

Patchy fog will be possible overnight, especially away from the coast. Make sure to plan extra travel time if you have to head out early Monday morning.

Monday's high temperatures.

Monday will be another warm day with temperatures coming close to if not exceeding record levels. It will be sunny and warm with highs in the mid to upper 80s. The record high for Jacksonville International is 89 degrees in 1952.

A front along with a disturbance will keep clouds and a few showers and storms in the forecast on Tuesday and Wednesday. A northeasterly wind will also bring cooler temperatures to our area.

Things will change as we head into the upcoming week. A slow-moving front will approach our area from the north on Tuesday and move south of our area on Wednesday. At the same time a disturbance offshore will be near our area on Wednesday. This will keep clouds and a few showers and storms around.

High temperatures over the next five days.

Temperatures will go from near-record levels to below-normal levels on Tuesday and Wednesday. Highs for many spots will stay in the 60s on Tuesday and Wednesday.

High pressure will build back in on Thursday through the first half of the upcoming weekend. Temperatures will warm from the 60s and 70s on Wednesday back into the 80s on Thursday through the upcoming weekend.

Regarding the drought, the latest drought monitor reflects the overall pattern over the past few months. The area of “extreme” drought continues to include our entire area. A exceptional drought classification has been introduced to our west for a portion of Florida and Georgia. Little if any improvement is expected over the upcoming week.
