Exceptional drought leads weather concerns
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – I want to start with the most pressing issue for Jacksonville right now: we’re facing an exceptional drought. This is the highest category for drought that we can see in our area, and it’s causing some real concerns for our community.
The drought has pushed in from Valdosta and now covers Lake City as well, according to Exact Track 4D and our drought monitor maps. It’s not just another dry spell—this situation means we all need to keep a close eye on how much water we’re using and how we stay safe outdoors.
I’m encouraging everyone to water your lawn just once a week and keep those showers short whenever you can. When things are this dry, fire risk goes up fast, and even small things can spark something bigger. Every day on News4JAX, I share fire safety reminders because I know how quickly things can turn.
If you want a closer look at the drought’s impact or need reminders on water use, keep checking back on The Weather Authority updates.
Warm, dry days with patchy fog
Let’s talk about the forecast. Temperatures are trending warm and pleasant, with numbers in the low to mid-70s in Jacksonville and even 80 by afternoon. This week has felt especially nice if you like it on the warmer side!
Early this morning, fog rolled in thick and created some dangerous travel conditions. Fog is expected to return tomorrow morning as well, especially if skies stay clear overnight. So, please take it easy if you’re heading out early.
Exact Track 4D is showing barely any chance for rain—only a slight 5 percent through the end of the weekend. Those spotty showers off the Atlantic are unlikely to amount to much. That means the next seven days are forecast to stay dry, and any meaningful rain just isn’t expected right now.
Looking ahead, highs will climb into the upper 80s by Friday, then a dip back into the 70s for the weekend. If you’ve got beach plans, the weather is expected to be just about perfect with calm winds and warm sun.
Scampi returns for a fun forecast
We had a special guest in the studio today—Scampi the shrimp is back! Scampi has become a bit of a star on News4JAX and will be joining us for noon weather throughout the season. He might not say much, but trust me, he brings plenty of personality and makes for a fun broadcast partner.
If you ever catch a good weather shot—maybe some early morning fog, a beautiful sunny afternoon, or even you and Scampi at the beach—share it with us on SnapJAX. We love seeing what your day looks like: Share your photos here.
