JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The rest of the day will be mostly cloudy and breezy with temperatures near 70 degrees. Winds could gust up to 30 mph at times for the rest of the day. The rip current risk will remain high. Dangerous beach and boating conditions can be expected thanks to the strong easterly to northeasterly winds.
Tonight will be mostly cloudy and cool with temperatures in the 50s.
Looking ahead to the upcoming week, our area is highlighted in getting some rainfall. However it won’t be widespread, which is not good news for our drought.
An area of high pressure will move offshore early this week. This will bring an easterly wind to our area. With more sunshine temperatures will climb into the upper 70s on Monday and low 80s on Tuesday.
The rip current risk will remain HIGH on Monday due to the stronger winds along the coast.
Isolated showers and storms will be possible each day thanks to the sea breeze. Areas along and west of the St. Johns River will have the best chance of seeing a shower or storm.
Temperatures will climb into the 80s later in the upcoming week and we will keep the chance of an isolated shower and storm in the forecast through the upcoming weekend.
Regarding the drought, the latest drought monitor reflects the overall pattern over the past few months. Most of our area remains in an extreme drought. An exceptional drought classification has been expanded to include more of our area. Little if any improvement is expected over the upcoming week.
