Rain Deficit: Exceptional drought expands across Northeast Florida and Southeast Georgia

Deficit deepens as region faces weeks without significant rainfall

Rainfall deficit from the past year.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The latest drought monitor is out, and it’s not good news for our area. The area of extreme drought remains over most of our area.

An “exceptional” drought has expanded in coverage across the region. This now includes all of Columbia County and most of Baker and Union counties in Florida. In Georgia, most of Ware County is under an “exceptional” drought.

A portion of our area would need over 15-20″ to get out of the drought. The deficit continues to grow across our area as we have seen hardly any rain over the past few weeks.

Tuesday's rainfall forecast.

The good news is a slow-moving front will move into our area early next week. Rain coverage will be most widespread on Tuesday as the front will be overhead. It will be breezy and much cooler as well.
